What a Lightspeed migration plan covers
We start with what your Lightspeed shop runs on today: product data and variants, languages, customer accounts, reviews, payment methods, apps and the link with your till. Each part gets a decision: move it, rebuild it on Shopify, replace it with an app or retire it. Then follow the URL map and redirects, the migration of products, customers and orders, tracking and feeds, and QA on real processes, from checkout to returns.

What moves from Lightspeed, and how
Lightspeed and Shopify structure a shop differently. We map every part to its Shopify counterpart before anything is imported:
Products, variants and images move with their SKUs and barcodes, so stock, feeds and the warehouse keep matching.
Product specifications and filters become metafields, with the storefront filters rebuilt on top of them.
Languages and countries become Shopify Markets, with translated content, local prices and currencies per market.
Customer accounts, addresses and order history move. Passwords cannot be exported, so we plan activation emails or passwordless login.
Reviews, gift cards and discount codes move where the source data allows it, or are rebuilt in the matching app.
Payment methods such as iDEAL and Bancontact continue through Shopify Payments or your own payment provider.
For every step in detail, read our guide Lightspeed to Shopify migration.
Stores, POS and integrations
If you also sell in stores, the till decides much of the route. You can keep Lightspeed POS and connect it to Shopify, or move to Shopify POS so online and in-store sales share one stock, one customer profile and one set of reports. We map which system owns stock, prices and customers in each scenario.
What it costs: Shopify POS Pro is €79 per location per month, and Shopify Plus includes POS Pro for up to 20 locations. Lightspeed Retail costs €99 to €229 per month on yearly billing. To keep Lightspeed Retail, Lightspeed offers its own Lightspeed Retail + Shopify integration for products and stock, and third-party connectors such as Patchworks (X-Series) and SyncSpider (R-Series) exist as well. Matching SKUs and barcodes in both systems are the main requirement.
Marketing, fulfilment, accounting and ERP connections get the same treatment: for each one we define the data owner, sync frequency and error handling, and test it before launch. See Shopify integrations.
Lightspeed URLs and SEO
Lightspeed and Shopify use different URL structures. On Shopify, products move to /products/ and categories to /collections/, and the language versions get their own paths per market. That makes the redirect map the most important SEO deliverable of the project:
We crawl every indexable URL, including language versions, brand pages and filtered category pages, not just the menu.
Each old URL goes to its closest new page, never to the homepage by default.
Category and product texts, metadata and internal links move along, or are improved on purpose.
hreflang is rebuilt for every language and market.
After launch we compare per template, language and country, so a drop is found where it starts.
Approach
We work in fixed phases, so you know at every point what has been decided and what is still open:
Migration audit: data, apps, POS, integrations, URLs and processes, with scope and risks per decision.
Solution design: Shopify or Shopify Plus, markets, data model and the role of apps versus custom work.
Design and build, delivered in reviewable parts.
Trial migrations with real data, to measure completeness and duration.
QA on real processes: orders, payments, stock, returns, stores and tracking.
Cutover with data freeze, final sync and redirects, followed by monitoring after launch.
Plan backwards from your peak. To sell on Shopify on Black Friday 2027 (26 November), we count six weeks for the scan, four for scope, about twenty for build, migration and testing, and six for launch and hypercare, followed by a code freeze from early November. In practice: the decision has to be made in February 2027.
We migrate in three runs, never one: a dry run in a development store to find fields that arrive empty, a dress rehearsal with the full data set to time the import, and a delta run after the freeze. After launch our hypercare runs 90 days, starting with daily checks of orders per hour, checkout conversion, failed payments per method, 404s and support tickets.
