Shopify Editions Fall '26: what is new, what keeps coming back and what to act on first

By Dylan Laseur

Shopify Editions Fall '26 landed with one word on the cover: Exponential. Under the tagline "Everything new for non-linear growth" sit more than 150 updates, from AI agents that can check out with Shop Pay to a refreshed admin and a new app for fraud and disputes.
If you have read the last few Editions, much of Shopify Editions Fall '26 will feel familiar. That is not a criticism. It is the most useful way to read the release. As a Shopify Platinum Partner, we look at every Edition through the lens of implementation, and some themes return every season, a little deeper each time. Others are genuinely new. In this breakdown we separate the two, show which updates matter for which type of business, and suggest a realistic order to act on them before peak season. These are the points that matter most:
Agentic commerce moves from discovery to checkout: shoppers can now buy with Shop Pay inside AI agents
Sidekick moves from assistant to operator and can apply a whole plan after one approval
Rollouts now bundle theme, checkout, catalogs and discounts across channels, which makes them the safest way to launch for Black Friday
POS moves closer to online, with abandoned online carts available to staff in the store
Canvas, Shopify Protect, a refreshed admin and peak-season marketing tools are the main new additions
Many features are still in early access or rolling out, so check availability before you plan
Shopify Editions Fall '26 in numbers
Shopify opens the release with a few figures that explain where the platform is heading:
150+ updates across agentic commerce, Sidekick, the online store, retail, payments, operations, marketing, fulfilment and developer tools
1B+ products in the Shopify Catalog that can be discovered across AI channels
400M+ shoppers with Shop Pay accounts
12K+ high-risk payments prevented by Shopify Payments every minute
4.2x growth in daily Sidekick sessions, year over year
The numbers tell the story of the whole release. Discovery is moving into AI channels, checkout follows it there, and Sidekick is becoming a daily tool rather than a novelty.
The themes that keep coming back in every Edition
Put Winter '26, Summer '26 and Shopify Editions Fall '26 side by side, and the same five themes show up each time. That repetition is useful. It shows where Shopify is investing for the long term, and where your own roadmap can safely follow.
1. Agentic commerce: from being visible to closing the sale
Winter '26 introduced agentic storefronts and catalog syndication, so products could appear inside AI shopping conversations. This time, the focus moves from discovery to the transaction itself:

Image: Shopify
Shop skill for any agent: ChatGPT, Claude and other agents can discover products, give recommendations and check out with Shop Pay
Shop Pay in agents: checkout and purchase approval in Muse, Claude Duet, Grok Bot and Instinct
Selling in Google: shoppers can buy inside Google Search, including AI Mode, and the Gemini app, while orders arrive in the Shopify admin
New connectors for Grok, Gemini, Muse and Microsoft Copilot, so teams can manage products, orders and inventory from those tools
Catalog eligibility check: shows whether a store meets the Shopify Catalog requirements and what to change
Business details for AI channels: a knowledge base where you review the facts, policies and FAQs that agents receive about your store
Product data and store policies have quietly become sales copy. When an agent answers a shopper's question, it uses what you gave it. Run the eligibility check first, then treat the knowledge base like you would treat a product page.
2. Sidekick: from assistant to operator
Winter '26 brought Sidekick Pulse, custom app generation and instant design updates. In Fall '26, Sidekick takes on more responsibility:
Complex workflows: multi-step tasks, batch changes, coding and web search, with memory of earlier context
Multi-change approval: approve a plan once and Sidekick applies multiple store changes, for example new descriptions across a whole collection
Tested recommendations: Sidekick runs proposed changes through SimGym before you decide what to apply
Pricing advice: product-level recommendations based on Shopify Smart Pricing models
Checkout customisation: build changes with Sidekick in the checkout and accounts editor
Theme context: Markdown theme files teach Sidekick about your theme and save your design preferences

Small teams benefit most. Olivia & Kate, a Dutch fashion brand we work with, nearly tripled revenue over the past year with a three-person eCommerce team that uses Sidekick to make faster decisions and automate operational work. The new risk is scale: one approval can now change hundreds of products. Decide who reviews Sidekick's plans before you hand it bigger jobs.
Beyond the Shopify admin: Sidekick works with what is inside your store. Many growth questions also sit in your ads, email and analytics. That is why we built Commerce365, an AI assistant for Shopify brands. It connects your store with Meta and Google Ads, Google Analytics, TikTok, Klaviyo, email and stock, and answers with your own numbers. Like the new Sidekick flow, nothing runs without you: every action needs one click of approval. With Commerce365 you can:
Build new sections for your store from a simple description
Turn one product photo into ad creative
See where profit is leaking across everything you have connected
Create dashboards from a description and share them with your team
Set up agents that keep watch on your store while you sleep
Work from your browser, your phone or inside Claude
You can try Commerce365 free for 14 days on the Shopify App Store.

3. Test before you launch: rollouts, A/B testing and SimGym
Native A/B testing, Rollouts and SimGym first arrived in Winter '26, and testing came back again in Summer '26. In Fall '26, rollouts grow from theme changes into full launches:
Bundled rollouts: schedule one launch or experiment that combines theme, checkout, catalogs and discounts
Cross-channel rollouts: launch or test across headless builds, POS, Google Shopping and the Shop app (reach and external channels)
Discount rollouts: discount changes coordinated with theme and checkout updates
Catalog scheduling: price and publishing changes per market, with automatic rollback (catalog rollouts)
SimGym shopping goals: set a goal for a simulation and see where to apply the recommendations
Our take: this is the update we would use first for Black Friday. A launch that bundles theme, checkout and discounts in one scheduled rollout is far safer than a manual push at midnight.

4. Retail and POS: closer to online with every Edition
Winter '26 added POS Hub, quick count and subscriptions on POS. Fall '26 focuses on recognising the customer in the store:
Expanded in-store recognition through the Shopify Payments network. According to Shopify, known in-store customers have a 60%+ higher lifetime value
Abandoned online carts in POS: staff can add a customer's online cart to the POS cart and complete the sale in store
Saved recent carts that any associate can pick up on any device
Scheduled stock counts by item, location and timeframe (stock counts in POS)
Receipt templates that add tax summaries for the EU, UK and Canada automatically (printed receipts)
Local in-store payments: Alipay, WeChat Pay, Satispay, Scalapay and GrabPay with Shopify Payments
Sales attribution and staff management, including tracking every sale to the associate
Our take: the abandoned cart in POS is a small feature with a big idea behind it. The customer who browsed online and walked into the store is one customer, and your staff can now treat them that way.
5. Checkout, markets and payments
Checkout per market arrived in Winter '26, and Checkout Components reached general availability in Summer '26. Fall '26 keeps building on that foundation:
Managed Markets pricing: all-in international prices with guaranteed duties and taxes through Shopify Managed Markets. Shopify reports +50% international conversion
Per-market fees for products and collections, collected at checkout (early access)
Custom checkout fields and a tiled payment method layout (rolling out soon)
Multi-entity payments: other providers connected per legal entity alongside Shopify Payments
More local payment methods, including MB WAY and OXXO online
What is genuinely new in Shopify Editions Fall '26
Beyond the recurring themes, a handful of updates are new enough to deserve their own place on your roadmap.
Canvas: the whole store in one view
Canvas lets merchants edit the entire store in one zoomable view, with Sidekick helping to build custom designs. Shopify says it makes launching from no theme to a live store 20% faster, and Canvas also works inside AI agents such as ChatGPT and Claude. It is still early, and we looked at what it can and cannot do yet in our Shopify Canvas breakdown.
Shopify Protect: fraud and disputes in one app
Shopify Protect brings fraud blocking, AI help with disputes and custom risk rules into one place. Shopify reports that merchants win 60% more "product not received" disputes. Around it sit related updates: automatic blocking of high-risk checkout attempts, risk explanations on the orders page, carrier proof of delivery added to disputes and AI-generated chargeback responses. Several of these features are still rolling out.
A refreshed admin
Updated navigation and layouts, with easier access to Sidekick (rolling out soon)
A filterable activity log that shows which staff member, app or service made a change (coming soon)
Passkeys, file folders and faster admin search
Auto-generated store policies for returns, shipping, contact and terms of service that stay in sync
Inline metafield editing on any admin page
Marketing tools, just in time for peak season
Campaign Autopilot: AI campaigns on Microsoft Advertising and Snapchat, with X Ads coming
WhatsApp: marketing consent collected at checkout, plus automated browse, cart and checkout abandonment messages
Pre-built Black Friday email series in Shopify Messaging
Unified marketing reports with clearer channel attribution
Shop Campaigns in 35+ new markets, including the UK, Australia and the EU
Storefront details that help conversion
Smarter storefront agent: shopper chat via Shopify Inbox for recommendations, checkout and handoff to staff. Shopify says signed-in Shop customers convert up to 1.5x higher in chats
Predictive search: better suggestions while typing, with add-to-carts from search up 8%
Right-to-left languages: Arabic, Hebrew and Urdu storefronts
Which Shopify Editions Fall '26 updates to prioritise, by business type
Not every update deserves a place in your next sprint. This is how we would sort them:
Business type | Look at first | Why |
Fast-growing DTC | Canvas, rollouts, SimGym shopping goals, predictive search | Faster iteration with less dependency on developer time |
Omnichannel and retail | In-store recognition, abandoned online carts in POS, scheduled stock counts, receipt templates | One customer view across the store and online |
B2B | Algolia for B2B, vendor details in B2B catalog exports, market-based shipping per company location | Buyers see their own catalog and negotiated prices |
Multi-market and enterprise | Managed Markets pricing, per-market fees, catalog scheduling by market, multi-entity payments | Local experiences without running separate stores |
Brands preparing for peak season | Shopify Protect, Black Friday email series, WhatsApp abandonment messages, discount rollouts | Protect margin and recover more carts when traffic peaks |
Running several of these profiles at once is normal for growing brands. In that case, start with the row that matches your biggest constraint today, not the one with the most exciting features. If you are unsure which eCommerce priorities fit your setup, that is exactly the conversation we have with brands after every Edition.
Acting on Shopify Editions Fall '26 in the next 30 days
Check availability first. Many updates are marked early access, rolling out soon or coming soon, and some depend on your plan or country.
Get agent-ready. Run the catalog eligibility check and review the business details agents receive about your store.
Prepare peak season. Set up fraud and dispute rules, and plan your Black Friday launch as a rollout.
Build one testing habit. One rollout or SimGym goal a month is enough to start learning.
Re-audit your apps. Native features for fraud, WhatsApp messages and search may now overlap with apps you already pay for.
