Wat is headless Shopify?

Headless Shopify is a new type of eCommerce architecture. Headless means there is no front-end (viewer) in the architecture. This new system allows you to sell your product anywhere online without being restricted by design and development. Everywhere can be your storefront.

Headless Shopify is een nieuwe vorm van eCommerce-architectuur. Headless betekent dat er geen voorkant (viewer) is in de architectuur. Dit nieuwe systeem stelt je in staat om je product overal online te verkopen, zonder beperkt te worden door ontwerp en ontwikkeling. Overal kan jouw etalage zijn.

Volgens een enquĂªte is 76% van de grote bedrijven van plan om binnen 12 maanden headless technologie te adopteren. Dit laat zien dat het headless systeem een technologie is waar veel ondernemers nu aandacht aan besteden.

In dit artikel zullen we headless Shopify uitleggen en de voor- en nadelen ervan bespreken.

Wat is “headless”?

Voordat we headless Shopify uitleggen, moeten we bespreken wat headless inhoudt. Headless is een soort systeemarchitectuur dat geen webpaginaheader of front-end heeft. Met andere woorden, de front-end en back-end zijn volledig gescheiden in een headless architectuur.

Je kunt dit begrip gemakkelijk begrijpen als je een headless systeem vergelijkt met een traditioneel systeem. Laten we een headless CMS (contentmanagementsysteem) en een traditioneel CMS met elkaar vergelijken!

Traditioneel CMS

De viewer die de inhoudsgegevens (tekst, afbeeldingen, video’s, etc.) laat zien en het back-end systeem dat deze inhoudsgegevens beheert, zijn geĂ¯ntegreerd in een traditioneel CMS. Laten we WordPress als voorbeeld nemen. Het back-end van WordPress beheert niet alleen inhoudsgegevens, maar ook sjabloongegevens. Daarom moet je dezelfde taal gebruiken als het back-end systeem als je wijzigingen wilt aanbrengen in sjablonen.

Deze traditionele CMS-architectuur wordt meestal aangeduid als “gekoppeld CMS“, in tegenstelling tot een headless CMS.

Headless CMS

Een headless CMS heeft geen viewer of front-end. Daarom kun je je volledig richten op de ontwikkeling van het systeem voor de back-end. Het front-end gedeelte wordt buiten het CMS beheerd, en het headless CMS levert inhoudsgegevens aan de externe front-end via een API(application programming interface).

Zoals je kunt zien, zijn de front-end en back-end volledig onafhankelijk in de architectuur van een headless systeem. De ontwikkelaar hoeft zich geen zorgen te maken over de systeemarchitectuur van de andere kant.

Wat is headless Shopify?

Shopify biedt Shopify Plus aan voor headless commerce. Alle informatie op Shopify is beschikbaar op andere platforms, zodat jouw bedrijf je product overal kan verkopen via de Shopify Storefront API.

Zonder het gebruik van headless Shopify is het technisch moeilijk om Shopify-informatie te verbinden met andere platforms zoals smartphone-applicaties. Daarom zal het voor je bedrijf een grote werklast vergen of zelfs onmogelijk zijn om Shopify te integreren in een originele smartphone-applicatie waarmee je jouw product wilt verkopen.

De storefront API die Shopify aanbiedt, is een oplossing voor deze situatie. Een API (application programming interface) is een manier om communicatie tussen meerdere computerprogramma’s mogelijk te maken. Met andere woorden, het is als een belofte over hoe gegevens worden opgeslagen voor computerprogramma’s.

Met headless Shopify kan jouw bedrijf zich richten op het back-end beheer van de Shopify-winkels. In dit geval moet je de viewers voorbereiden waar de gegevens worden weergegeven.

1. Beschikbaarheid van elke front-end technologie

Het eerste voordeel van headless Shopify is dat er geen beperkingen zijn op ondersteunde apparaten. Headless Shopify levert inhoudsgegevens in API-formaat dat de meeste front-end technologieën kunnen begrijpen. Daarom kun je, zodra je inhoud hebt gemaakt in het back-end beheersysteem, de gegevens op elk platform of in elke viewer weergeven zoals je wilt.

2. Betere gebruikerservaring

Headless Shopify maakt het mogelijk voor gebruikers om de website sneller te openen, zodat ze van je eCommerce kunnen genieten zonder enige stress. Bovendien kunnen ontwikkelaars en ontwerpers dankzij headless Shopify de viewer meer vrij aanpassen, wat resulteert in stijlvollere weergavedesigns en een betere gebruikerservaring.

Waar de gebruiker ook jouw producten koopt, één centraal back-end systeem slaat alle gegevens op die ze verstrekken. Dit maakt het mogelijk om een gepersonaliseerde klantervaring te bieden, ongeacht waar ze het kopen.

3. Scheiding van front-end en back-end

De headless systeemarchitectuur verduidelijkt de verantwoordelijkheden van systemen. In dit systeem zijn de front-end en back-end volledig onafhankelijk. Daarom kan het ontwikkelingsteam zich bij eventuele systeemproblemen richten op één kant van het systeem door te identificeren of het een probleem is met de back-end of de front-end.

Nadelen van headless Shopify

1. Noodzaak van extra ingenieurs

Voor het werken met headless Shopify is gespecialiseerde kennis nodig, zoals kennis van API-implementatie, omdat je het front-end systeem apart van het back-end systeem moet ontwikkelen. Aangezien de front-end en back-end systeemarchitectuur verschillend zijn, moet het bedrijf meerdere ingenieurs hebben die elk systeem begrijpen. Het is moeilijk voor een niet-technisch persoon om alle inhoudsgegevens in dit systeem te beheren.

2. Hogere kosten

Het implementeren van headless Shopify kan duurder zijn. Je moet meer betalen voor de ontwikkelaars en infrastructuur om het op te zetten, enzovoort. Daarnaast zal de betaling gecompliceerder zijn omdat je ze apart moet betalen.
